Centre for Expanded Poetics
Concordia University (LB 681)
Webster Library building 1400 de Maisonneuve W.
In this workshop led by CEP Risograph Coordinator Jessica Bebenek, we will create collaged posters to print palimpsesticly on the risograph. Bebenek will give a short history of risograph printing traditions and demonstrate the fundamentals of the printing process, followed by a group collage session in which each participant will create an 11×17” poster. We will then over-print our posters, creating spontaneous collaborative prints. All materials will be provided, but participants may bring their own collage supplies.
No advance registration required.
Jessica Bebenek is a poet & interdisciplinary artist currently based in Tiohtià:ke (Montreal). She teaches poetry & bookmaking and works as a risograph printer & bookmaker at Concordia University’s Centre for Expanded Poetics where she prints the Documents book series, and where in 2017 she co-organized the international Occult Poetics Symposium. k2tog, her collection of knitting patterns for poems, was released by Berlin’s Broken Dimanche Press (2018).
The Centre for Expanded Poetics is a collaboration space which organizes film screenings, equipment workshops, conferences, and symposia. Our library and reading room consists of a substantial collection of 20th and 21st century experimental poetry, as well as texts on art and architecture. Our equipment includes a Risograph digital duplicator for small press printing, a v-bed scanner for archival reproduction of printed text, and a suite of digital photography and video equipment. We are interested in collaborating on projects that link poetics with other arts and fields of formal inquiry (e.g. architecture, design, textiles, the sciences).
